DROPLETS: Poetry for those in grief

Saying goodbye to a loved one is one of the hardest parts of life. It never gets easier. Anne Peterson understands this. She was sixteen when she lost her mother, twenty-four when she lost her father, and thirty when her sister was killed.

In the last several years, Anne said goodbye to two of her brothers, and her 14-month old granddaughter, Olivia. Anne is well acquainted with grief. With each loss, God drew her closer to himself, giving comfort like no one else could. And in the midst of her pain, poetry came out. Anne’s desire is that her words would help those who are hurting know they are not alone in their grief.

"...a powerful book that touches both the soul and the emotions."

Droplets is a powerful book of poems that touches both the soul and the emotions. It helped me face the sorrow I still carry and to find healing in the only One who can provide it. I highly recommend this to anyone who has lost a loved one.”

“Peterson has thoughtfully included poems reflecting the loss of a spouse, parent or sibling, as well as poems for silent, anticipated, or catastrophic grief.
What I appreciate most is her exploration of the complicated and unexpected emotions grief can bring forth. From her memoir, Broken, I know she has been forced into first-hand knowledge, and perhaps this is where the depth of her writing comes from. While some poems ask difficult and sometimes angry questions, others reflect the solace of “hitting replay” to invite the wash of memories. Peterson’s deep faith is often evident. Her words are simple, but her messages are not.

The short verses in this collection could be beneficial for those in grief. It could also be a valuable resource for those seeking to understand grief in a more empathetic way. It is a volume to be revisited again and again.”

“This collection ran me through the gauntlet of emotions. I felt grief for those closest to me who I’ve lost. I felt empathy for the author’s losses. I felt sympathy for anyone who is struggling with grief right now. Finally, I felt grateful. Grateful for a loving and merciful savior as well as grateful for my nearest and dearest whom I have not lost. Droplets reminds me to make everyday count. This would be an excellent gift for anyone who has recently experienced a loss or anyone who has lost someone very close – ever.”
